Lucy Davidson

Lucy discovered a curiosity for stop-motion animation after graduating from a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2016. Enthralled by the humour of American animator Terry Gilliam and Czech born Jan Svankmajer, she jumped at the opportunity to channel her creative energy into animation. Her experience in puppet building began in 2017, volunteering on the white night project “The Man Who Cannot Sleep” with international artist Gonzalo Varela. A passion for working on large scale puppetry led to her involvement with Snuff Puppets in 2019.  In a multi-artist collaboration, she learnt large scale puppet building skills and performed at “One night in Footscray”. From these workshops, Lucy learnt new techniques that she applied to puppet building for animation. Her quirky nature brings humour to inanimate objects, giving them personality with sharply-animated gestures. Experienced in 2D & 3D computer animation, her true passion lies in the playful and tactile nature of stop-motion. Her first short film brought to life a religious seafood prawn, combining her natural drawing ability with paper cut-out to create an original animation style. Lucy’s creative drive and artistic risk-taking makes every new project fresh and spontaneous.
